Summary: Collection consists of the territorial and New Mexico District court records for Valencia County, New Mexico (1849-1953). The bulk of the material covers the years, 1849-1921. Included are record books (1851-1916), case files (1851-1953), and other court material. Record books consist of various dockets (1851-1913), court proceedings record books (1854-1856, 1859-1860, 1889-1909, 1873-1880), a record book of invoices (1865-1873), a roll book of attorneys at law (1874-1899), minutes (1903), jury book (1905-1910, 1923), and a cash book (1865-1873). Dockets include civil (1882-1912), judge's (1910-1913), cost (1878-1881, 1888-1916) and minutes and motions (1851-1854) volumes. Judge's dockets cover criminal (1910-1913) and civil (1910-1911) trials. Case files consist of criminal cases 1-836, 1646 (1852-1912, 1931) and civil cases 2-4302 (1851-1940). Civil cases include tax cases with two numbering systems: cases 1785-5728 (1912-1950) and cases 1-602 (1926-1952). Large gaps may exist between case files. Other court material consists of an undated jury list and miscellaneous warrants. Additional material for Valencia County can be found in the District Court records for Bernalillo County.
